THE QUANDARY

Questions about God, truth, and the meaning of life have accompanied humanity throughout history. Philosophers, scientists, theologians, and ordinary individuals have all wrestled with them in different ways.

Over the course of these reflections, we have considered a number of ideas that point towards the actual existence of God. Some arise from the remarkable order and complexity of the universe, others from the nature of human consciousness and moral awareness, and others still from the historical testimony surrounding the life and teachings of Jesus.

None of these reflections alone may compel belief for every reader. Yet when considered together they form a cumulative case that invites thoughtful deliberation.

The universe itself raises profound questions about its origin and its finely balanced conditions for life. Human beings possess an awareness of right and wrong that seems to point beyond mere survival. Across history, people from many cultures have sensed a reality greater than themselves. Why are we here at all and where did our intelligence come from? Science can sometimes explain the ‘how’, but not the ‘why’. Our existence does not seem to make much sense without an afterlife beyond our finite time on Earth.

THE ADVOCATE

Within this broader search for meaning stands the figure of Jesus of Nazareth. The Gospel writers present Him not merely as a teacher or philosopher, but as someone who spoke with a unique authority about God, human nature, forgiveness, and eternal life. His message has endured for nearly two thousand years and continues to inspire faith, reflection, and debate across the world.

These essays are not intended as a formal theological argument, nor as a complete treatment of the subject. Rather, they represent a series of thoughtful observations that, when considered together, may encourage readers to reflect more deeply on the probability of a divine creator.

The overall number of main essays in this series – thirty-three – has been chosen deliberately, loosely reflecting the traditional age of Jesus at the time of His crucifixion. Readers are invited to approach these reflections with an open mind, to carefully consider the words chosen, and to draw their own conclusions. A high degree of repetition has been used for the sake of emphasis.

THE INVITATION

Each reader must ultimately decide how to respond to these matters. The purpose of these reflections has not been to compel belief, but to encourage thoughtful exploration of questions that have occupied the human mind for centuries.

If these writings prompt even a small number of people to reflect more deeply on the probability of the existence of God and the message contained in the Gospels, then they will have served their purpose.

The search for truth has always been one of humanity’s greatest journeys. For many people, that journey ultimately leads to faith. Each of us must choose how far we are willing to follow it.
