THE HUMAN CONDITION
We often struggle to understand our human condition — our physical frailty, our emotional uncertainty, and our ultimate destiny. Some believe that death is simply the end: the extinguishing of consciousness and the dissolution of the self.
But the Bible presents a very different picture. It teaches that we will one day stand before God, give an account of our lives, and discover the eternal future He has prepared for us.
THE END OF TIMES
Science reminds us that the Earth itself will not last forever. One day the sun will burn out and our planet will perish. Jesus also spoke of an appointed time — a moment known only to God — when the world as we know it will come to an end. “The day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night” (1. Thessalonians 5:2) and “Be on your guard because you do not know the hour or the day” (Matthew 25:13).
OUR VULNERABILITY
Our bodies are temporary vessels, wonderfully made yet fragile. When life ends, the body returns to the earth. But the soul — the person we truly are — continues, for God created us with an eternal purpose.
The Covid-19 pandemic revealed just how vulnerable humanity really is. A microscopic virus halted the world, humbled nations, and reminded us that our strength can be shaken in an instant. Consider too, our survival in the face of major earthquakes and tidal waves.
Yet for those who believe in God, vulnerability does not lead to despair. Instead, it redirects us to the only enduring hope we have — God’s promise of eternal life.
OUR HOPE FOR THE FUTURE
In a world where everything is temporary, faith offers what nothing else can:
- Purpose for today,
- Strength in uncertainty,
- And life beyond death.
CONCLUSION
We may be fragile.
But God is not.
And He invites us to trust Him with both our present lives and our eternal future.
